Cicero residents packed the town’s fairgrounds the last weekend in June to celebrate America’s independence a little early.
Hosted by the town and organized by the Department of Special Events, this year’s AmericanFest featured various live music acts entertain crowds, carnival rides, booths, foods and many more activities for people throughout the weekend starting June 23. The weekend event was capped with a lively fireworks display on Sunday night.
“AmericanFest has been one of our biggest festivals, and one of my favorites,” said Cicero Town President Larry Dominick. “I love seeing everyone from so many different cultural backgrounds come together and celebrate the independence of this nation as one body.”
Acts such as American English, Recycle the Day and Arra entertained audiences during the four-day festival, with 7th Heaven finishing off the night before the fireworks launched. Families enjoyed the Ferris Wheel, roller coasters and carnival-type games throughout the walkways, some munching on fare from local restaurants.
“Residents clearly enjoy our AmericanFest celebration,” said Town Assessor Emilio “Emo” Cundari. “We constantly see familiar faces when walking around, as well as a number of new visitors who are impressed with our festival. Its not long, then, before they become familiar faces, too.”
